Rachel Foux and
Clare Downie offer private and
confidential Pelvic Floor Therapy in Hertfordshire. Together they combine
their specialist experience in sexual health with physiotherapy, to support
women to heal symptoms of genital discomfort, pelvic floor
weakness, incontinence or loss of sexual desire.
They understand the challenges that the birthing and menopausal years can
present to a woman’s pelvic floor health and as such, offer their clients
the opportunity to have both physical and emotional support, side by side in
a relaxed and supportive clinic.
HOW DO I KNOW IF PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Pelvic Floor Therapy always begins with a 90 minute Initial Consultation
with Rachel, in which she will ask you in detail about your medical and
sexual history as well as your lifestyle. She will also encourage you to
share your concerns about the condition of your pelvic floor and any
symptoms that may be present for you.
Rachel will also suggest an individual treatment plan and offer relevant
pelvic floor and sexual health education . This consultation does not
include a physical examination but Rachel may choose to refer you for
specific hormone testing or for a medical check-up, prior to your Pelvic
Floor Therapy.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT THE FIRST MEETING?
Your first Pelvic Floor Therapy appointment will be with Clare, our
physiotherapist who is trained specifically in assessment, rehabilitation
and strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles. She will suggest a program of
exercises to help improve the strength of your pelvic floor.
This first meeting with Clare may involve a physical examination to assess
the strength of your pelvic floor and thus give a more specific and
effective treatment. However, a physical examination is by no means
compulsory and this can be discussed in more detail at the Initial
Consultation and again with Clare.
It is also possible for Rachel to be present during this examination to
offer emotional support and to compliment the physical treatment. You may
choose to see her at a later to stage to discuss you progress or for ongoing Intimacy Coaching.
WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?
From then on, you will have the option to see either Rachel or Clare,
separately or together, depending on your unique circumstances. For some
women, one meeting with Clare can be enough to reassure and to guide,
whereas for others, more sessions may prove to be beneficial. Whichever the
case, there is never any pressure on you, we will always work at
your pace.
